Antique Pair Of Vion And Baury Bisque Young Male And Female Figures With Bird
DESCRIPTION : Here is a pair of late 19th century Vion & Baury bisque porcelain young male and female figures. They are very well modelled, good painted facial features and are highly decorated. The male figure is holding a bow with an arrow on the ground in front of him. He is wearing a blue handkerchief type hat, a white shirt with raised gilt dots and a gilt lined collar.
His trousers with green and raised gilt stripes and alternate panels of pink and orange flowers with red dashes and pink and blue ferns. To the top of his trousers he has three raised gilt buttons.
His boots are two tone brown leather with buttons. The female figure is holding a white injured bird in her hands.She has a rose to one side of her hair and a rose on the ground. She has a white blouse with raised gilt dots and a central blue bow.
Her skirt with pink tones is painted with yellow, red, lilac and blue leaf flowers with a raised gilt dot to the centers. The hem of the skirt has a painted panel of pink flowers having blue and green leaves with an undulating red dotted line running through the flowers all the way round. The hem of the skirt also has a raised gilt dotted pattern above and a gilt band below. She is also wearing blue and gilt lined shoes, a pair of gilt earrings and a gilt beaded necklace. To her right on the ground is a white bird cage with a blue dot pattern.
Both figures are standing on a painted green and brown base. The bases are blue lined to the bottom with an upper gilt band and a band of raised gilt dots to the top of the base. To the front of the bases they have four painted pink roses with red enamel, a raised gilt cross that separates the roses and has a gilt dot on each end and one to the center with green leaves and pink ferns. The bases are supported on three acanthus leaves in yellow and pink. They are both marked to the base with an applied blue pad and impressed VB and both have something incised but i can not make it out. The figures date to circa 1880. SIZE : The both measures 11 inches (28 cm) high. The combined weight before packing is 1.513 kilos.CONDITION : The male figure has some losses to the gilt dotted pattern to the top of the base and to the gilt band to the lower part of the base as in picture 10. The female figure has a piece of one finger missing and the bird in her had has a gilt arrow tip missing to the right hand side of the birds breast as in picture 11. As the male figure the gilt dotted pattern and the gilt band to the base has gilt loss as in picture 7. The gilt ball to the top of the bird cage has a piece of gilt missing and one gilt bead to her necklace is missing. Despite the minor faults they still display well.
